Visual Resource Center

The Visual Resource Center is a resource that serves the teaching needs of the faculty members from the Department of Art + Design and the School of Architecture. The collection is comprised of over 105,000 35 mm slides and 20,000 digital images.

The image collection includes fine art images from prehistoric times to the present day as well as photography and graphic design images. The architecture image collection also covers ancient times to the present with a strong emphasis on modern architecture.

Digital images are delivered view the web through MDID, an on-line digital asset management system. This software may also be used as a presentation tool or images can be downloaded into another presentation program, such as PowerPoint.

The VRC also maintains study sites for art history and architectural history courses. These sites are password protected and are available to students enrolled in the courses.

Image requests are processed as quickly as possible. Please allow 2-3 weeks for new images to be added to the collection. A Copy Request Form must accompany all new requests. If you are donating original images to the collection, please complete an Image Data Sheet as well.

The VRC is staffed by a full-time curator and work-study students. The curator and students are available to assist patrons with access to the collection, both analog and digital as well as will the transition from slide to digital presentations.

The VRC is located in Ryder Hall, Room 320. Center hours are Monday through Friday form 8:30-4:30 pm. For an orientation to the collection, an appointment is highly recommended.
